Creado por PHOENIX -- Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has tendinitis in his right (non-throwing) elbow and has been shut down from swinging a bat for two weeks, he said Friday.
Gonzalez said the injury is not considered serious, but it puts his participation in the World Baseball Classic for Team Mexico in doubt. His brother, former Major Leaguer Edgar Gonzalez, manages Team Mexico.
"It's tennis elbow from just working out, too much hitting and boxing," said Gonzalez. "I felt it while working out in early December and it didn't seem like much, but it hasn't gone away.
"They told me to take a few weeks off so it won't linger and flare up and bother me going into the season. It's precautionary. Better to take care of it now than six weeks from now."

El estelar primera base de los Dodgers de Los Angeles y la seleccion Mexicana al WBC 2017 fue diagnosticado con tendinitis en su codo derecho ( el brazo de fildear ) y le fue indicado reposo ( sin poder empunar un bate para hacer swing) por dos semanas. A's left fielder Khris Davis has bowed out of the World Baseball Classic, forgoing his invitation from Team Mexico to focus his energy on preparing for his second season in Oakland.
Davis, speaking Sunday upon reporting to camp, said the decision was "horrible, I feel terrible," but he believes it to be in the best interest of the A's.
"I kind of feel overextended personally," Davis said. "You take on a lot, and it's a lot of days away, and my main focus is to perform for the organization, and I feel like I want to get off on the right foot. El jardinero Izquierdo de los Atleticos de Oakland Khris Davis decidio no representar a Mexico en el venidero WBC 2017. Davis prefirio quedarse en los entrenamientos pre-temporada con su equipo A's y asi enfocarse en su segunda temporada como jugador regular.
